How to play the game

The goal is to create and amass wealth

perfectcompetition.net covers many different aspects of business. In the game as in reality, there are several ways in which you can amass a fortune. The game does not insist on you taking any one path. At the end of a round, the player with the most amount of money wins the round.

The first thing to decide is what you would like to do with the money that you've started with. Invest? Speculate? Hold some of it as cash? Use it to start a company? If you'd like to run a company, what should the company do? Should it produce a product or provide a service? Should it focus on research and patents? Should it accummulate land? Should it buy and sell company bonds? Should it invest in shares?

Let's say you'd like to produce and sell a good. In this case, which sector of the economy should you focus on? Which market should you enter? Where should you locate? How should you position your product vis a vis others? Whom should you employ? What should you pay your employees? Can you produce the product in sufficient quantities? Is the product in demand? What price should you set? Do you have a competitive advantage in the market?

These are the sorts of decisions that you will have to make as a player. As the round progresses, the amount of capital that you have, the price of capital and the amount of capital available in financial markets, the number of competitors that you have, the availability of supplies, the price of goods, consumer spending, monetary policy, all of this, changes, some because of your decisions and the decisions of other players, others by chance. So, you'll have to steer your company and on occasions revise your strategy. The goal is to create and amass wealth.
